The anterior approach is the only technique that follows inter-muscular and inter-nervous planes to reduce the risk of injury to muscles, tendons, vessels and nerves. When these muscles are not cut, patients can return to activity much faster and do not have the restrictions after surgery like other approaches to the hip. The anterior approach is a true muscle-sparing surgical technique.
Anterior hip replacement is a proven surgical protocol with thousands of successful procedures done. Patients who have undergone Direct Anterior Hip Replacement surgery report that the postoperative pain and discomfort is markedly less than traditional approaches. In addition, their recovery is expedited. Most patients are discharged from the hospital by post op day #2 and are off of all walking aids (cane/crutches) by the 2nd week from surgery. Let Dr. Rich discuss with you the advantages of direct anterior hip replacement and help you return to the activities you enjoy.
